Following the market we will continue towards the hills in the Mea Wang area. Our first activity of the day will be to meet the elephants. To reach the home of the elephants we will need to transfer to a sturdy 4 wheel drive vehicle as we will need to head up into the hills on a dirt track to reach the elephants home. You will spend about 1 hour with the elephants you will have the chance to get up close and feed these lovely animals then take some time to to give them a scrub in the river. After the mornings elephant activities we will head back down to the valley for lunch before starting our trek for the afternoon. The trek will start at a Karen Village (not long neck) you will have a bit of time to take a look around the village then head off on a 1.5 hour walk in the hills. The finishing point will be Mae Wang Waterfall where if conditions allow you can take a swim in the cool waters. The final activity of the day will be to take bamboo rafts down the Win River. You will get wet for this activity so be prepared! The tour will finish when we make the return drive to Chiang Mai and transfer you back to your hotel.

What to wear and bring on this tour
• The Northern Thailand climate is hot all year round. Wear light, cool clothes: Shorts (or long pants if you prefer), T shirt and a sun hat are ideal attire. Please wear sturdy foot ware for the trek. Please wear sports shoes and not sandals or thongs
• Please be prepared for the occasional shower, luckily in Chiang Mai rainfall is mostly confined to short showers rather than prolonged rainfall. A lightweight easily packable raincoat is an ideal precaution
• You will get wet during the bamboo rafting and bathing with the elephants swim wear is recommended as you will be getting wet and muddy. If water conditions allow swimming at the waterfall is also possible.
These elephants live up in the forested hills in the Mae Wang area and Blugecko believe the elephant owners provide a good standard of elephant welfare but please note the following:
• A bull hook is used on occasions to ensure control and safety of both the elephant and client
• A limited amount of bareback riding is allowed - no riding apparatus or seats are used
Please be aware and understand the above if you are uncomfortable with any use of the bull hook then please do not do not book this tour
if you have any further questions on the elephant welfare on this trip please ask us.
In line with the requirements of our Tourism Authority of Thailand Licence we will provide accident insurance for all participants up to a maximum value of 100,000 baht to cover medical bills in the event of an accident.
Children above 130 cm tall will be charged as adults
For children 24 months up to 130cm tall there is a 500 baht reduction in price
there is no charge for infants up to 24 months old.
If conditions allow (if the flow is not too strong) it is possible to take a dip and shower in the cascading waters of Mae Wang Waterfall so you may want to bring a swim suit.
